Calligraphy

ASSIGNMENT 1: Calligraphy (calli = beautiful; graph = writing)

 Use pen and ink to write a truism in calligraphy.

STEPS:

  1. Practice ink pen technique
  2. practice consistent strokes
  3. Practice writing truism. Use good composing and spacing of letters and words.
  4. Name on all practice sheets and turn in as a packet .
  5. Make "guidelines" template
  6. Paper clip white paper over your template. You can see the lines on the template beneath.
  7. Leave large margin around edge of paper.
  8. Letter your truism in your best calligraphy.

GRADE 1 :

 Consistency of strokes
 Composition and spacing
 Craftsmanship
 

ASSIGNMENT 2:

Write a short story that explains the meaning of your truism.

Steps:

  1. On notebook paper, write your selected truism as the title of your short story.
  2. Write an introductory paragraph, one of more central paragraphs and an ending paragraph.
  3. Use your best spelling and grammar.

GRADE 2:

Meaning of truism is explained in story.

Spelling/grammar

ASSIGNMENT 3: Metal Repoussé lesson

Create a frame and mat for your truism. Use metal repoussé to decorate the border/frame.

Grade 3:

Design
Metal repoussé
craftsmanship

NOTES:

Lettering can be segregated into 4 basic groups.

 GOTHIC: all letters are composed of uniform widths
 ROMAN:  all letters composed of thick & thin lines
 TEXT:   includes all styles similar to old English text.
 SCRIPT: has the look of handwriting.
