COMPOSITION

Geometric Forms in Pencil Value

Composition is the arrangement of elements on a format.

Good composition takes time and thought.

ASSIGNMENT:

Use the geometric forms you created using pencil value to make a composition that appears to have depth (goes back in space).

STEPS:

1. Cut out forms
2. Arrange the forms so that they appear to have space and depth between them.
Here is a list of characteristics that objects have as they recede in space:

Overlapping - by partially covering one object with another it gives an appearance of depth.
Placement on page – The higher an object is on the page, the farther away from the viewer it appears
Size - smaller objects seem farther away

3. Glue forms to format
4. Use a ruler to draw a horizon line high on the format.

GRADING:

Overlapping
